More than 167,000 pounds of pork, beef and goat meat are being recalled nationwide after federal officials discovered the products were produced without required USDA inspection and carried a false inspection mark.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall Sept. 22. USDA 1
The meat was produced by Star Meat Delivery Inc. and shipped to Georgia distributor A&D Foods, which then distributed products to retailers and restaurants across the country.
Officials have not released a complete list of stores or restaurants that may have received the meat. USDA 2
Consumers are being urged to check their refrigerators and freezers for meat sold under the A&D Foods label, particularly products carrying the establishment number:
“EST. 1363”
That number is not a valid USDA inspection mark for these products.
The recall covers numerous items, including:
- Goat meat and skin-on goat cuts
- Beef oxtail
- Ribeye and thin-sliced beef
- Beef short ribs
- Beef shanks and feet
- Ground pork
- Pork chops
- Pork chorizo
- Pork feet
- Pork ribs
- Boston butt pork
- Pork hocks
- Menudo mix
Some meat may have been repackaged by individual grocery stores, meaning the packaging consumers see may not look exactly like the original A&D Foods boxes.
So far, no illnesses or injuries have been confirmed in connection with the recall.
However, meat produced without federal inspection could potentially contain harmful bacteria, undeclared allergens or other contaminants.
The USDA says consumers should not eat the recalled meat. Products should be thrown away or returned to the store where they were purchased. Restaurants and retailers have also been instructed not to sell or serve the affected products.
Officials say additional products or labels could be added as the investigation continues.
